From Cleveland, Oklahoma,
Elton Britt grew up to be one of hillbilly music’s best-known
singers and prolific yodelers. All you have to do is sit down
and listen to songs like “Chime Bells” or “There’s a Star
Spangled Banner Waving Somewhere” to know you’re listening to
some good music.
Elton had a great career, and
was a headliner on several top shows in the country, such The
Louisiana Hayride, Wheeling Jamboree, Garden State Jamboree,
and the Hayloft Jamboree. I remember Elton making appearances
on the Wheeling Jamboree at the time I was a headliner there.
In 1990, he was inducted into the Western Music Hall of Fame.
Elton died June 22, 1972.
