Jeannie Seely was born to
Leo and Irene Seely in Titusville, Pennsylvania on July 6,
1940. She was one of four children who lived in a two-story
farmhouse in Townville, a community of about 300.
One of her career
highlights happened September 16, 1967, when she joined the
Grand Ole Opry. She was dubbed “Miss Country Soul” and became
the first and only Pennsylvanian to become an Opry member.
After being turned down
by several record companies, Jeannie finally got the big
break, she was signed by Monument Records. Her first recording
made on March 12, 1966 was a mamounth hit, Hank Cochran’s
“Don’t Touch Me.” It stayed number one on almost all the
charts and has since become one of the all-time great standard
country songs.
