According to Arlie Duff,
his 1953 hit, “Ya’ll
Come,”
was “accidentally written.”
Duff said, “At the time
I wrote that song, I was living with my Grandma and
coaching basketball. It was Sunday afternoon and I was l
laying in her front porch swing, when this little old
lady drove up in her flatbed pickup truck to visit my
Grandma. I just laid there in that old porch swing,
listening to their conversation. The lady finally
decided to leave but it took her quite awhile to go.
From the time she starting leaving until she finally
drove away she told my Grandma, “Ya’ll come” seventeen
times. After she finally did leave, I started repeating
those words to myself over and over
and
decided
there had to be a song in there somewhere. So I guess
you could say that I
accidentally wrote
that song and recorded it. And it was a hit!”
Duff’s “Ya’ll Come”
entered the country music charts December 12th,
1953 and peaked at number seven. It was Duff’s only
chart single and was on the charts for ten weeks.
