Ricky Skaggs recorded his 1984
hit, “Honey Open That Door” in 1979 but it wasn’t released
until 1984. Skaggs was signed to
Sugarhill
Records at the time he recorded the tune. He played the tape
of “Honey Open That Door” for the CBS Records folks, but told
them they
couldn’t have the tape as he was still under contract to
Sugarhill
Records. Ricky says that playing that tape of “Honey Open That
Door” helped him get a recording contract with CBS Records.
“Honey Open That Door” was
written by Mel
Tillis
and gave Mel his first number one song in twelve years.
“Honey Open That Door” entered
the country music charts March 24th, 1984 and became Ricky
Skaggs’
7th number one. It was on the charts for 18 weeks and was his
11th charted song.
